The Stirling Tapestries, by artist Craigie Aitchison is a unique and special exhibit of six large tapestries which were originally designed for a competition to decorate The Chapel Royal in Stirling Castle.
Aitchison had spent much of his childhood near Stirling, and with a genuine and on-going interest in Christian imagery he was thrilled at the prospect of designing for the Chapel Royal. Unfortunately, the competition was never completed but his designs were produced posthumously as a faithful realisation of the artist’s intent. The final tapestries are based on high quality photographs of his six painted designs. Sadly, Craigie never saw his work woven into these superb tapestries but at Kirkcaldy Galleries you can and what’s more these limited editions are available for sale.
