If you go down to the woods today...you’ll probably see some bikes! I’m certainly noticing more and more people out on two (or sometimes more) wheels, rolling along and having a great time. From toddlers just learning on balance bikes, to grandparents who’ve been cycling their whole lives, cycling of all types is seeing enormous growth in popularity at the moment.
For many people, the best place to enjoy some cycling is somewhere traffic free, relatively flat and with some interest along the way; be it beaches, historical buildings, a good view, or a good café. If this sounds like you, then Fife’s new Mountain Bike route cards
will be right up your street (or trail!). I’ve selected nine routes from around Fife, most of which have been chosen for their suitability for the majority of people; these aren’t routes where technical skill is necessary, but where you can get away from hustle and bustle, breath some fresh air, and have some fun with your whole family.
As well as featuring route specific information and a basic map, the cards also feature advice on responsible access to the outdoors, and some tips for making sure your ride is an enjoyable one. They also include information about relevant local businesses such as bike shops, guides and those all-important cafés. These aren’t just a paper based resource either, the route cards are all available to download online, which you can also access by scanning the QR code below from your smart phone!
My top tips for routes with kids would be Lochore Meadows Country Park, or the ever popular Tentsmuir Forest. While more undulating but a definite top tip for amazing views is Pitmedden Forest, take a camera for that one!
So the next time you go down to the woods, take some bikes, you’ll not be the only ones doing so!
