With school holidays coming up, it’s time to plan some fun days out with the kids. Why not enjoy a family day out in the Kingdom of Fife? There’s plenty to keep the kids entertained. Here are a just a few suggestions for a fun Fife day out:
For a real adventure, why not escape by boat to the enchanting Inchcolm Island, described as the Iona of the East. Pack a picnic and spend the day exploring the island, enjoying the wildlife and seals and visiting the 12th century Abbey. If you’re in the East Neuk, an alternative boat trip experience is to take the May Princess from Anstruther which sails daily to the Isle of May for a fantastic ‘Famous Five’ experience, If you're lucky you might just spot some puffins.
Scotland’s best kept secret for over 40 years, visit the Secret Bunker - 24,000 sq ft of accommodation underground. Had there been a Nuclear War, this is where Scotland would have been governed. Fascinating and the kids will love it!
One of Fife's many national attractions, kids will enjoy a visit to Deep Sea World – Scotland’s national aquarium – which has the UK’s longest underground viewing tunnel. For the opportunity of a lifetime, and if you’re brave enough, why not dive with the sharks (suitable for 8 years +)! St Andrews Aquarium is also a favourite of ours and kids will absolutely love the meerkat family who live there!
For some outdoor fun, visit the Scottish Deer Centre which has 14 species of deer from all over the world, Fife’s only wolf pack, otters and rare Scottish species. You can also enjoy a birds of prey show and kids will enjoy the play barn. For some adventure play, take a trip to Cluny Activities near Kirkcaldy, which has fun activities for young kids as well as teenagers. Try out the golf driving range…or swap the clubs for a football and enjoy a round of footgolf... the UK's fastest growing sport!

If you're looking to tire the kids out, head to Tentsmuir Forest for some walking or cycling. Here you'll discover the best of both worlds where forest meets coast, and you can enjoy hours of endless fun that doesn’t cost a penny. Don’t forget to wrap up warm at this time of year and highly recommended is a visit to the Crepe Shack for a yummy crepe or warming hot chocolate.
