We have built Kingsbarns Distillery in this land once prized by kings of Scotland for its barley. The gleaming new copper stills are fired up and our first precious ‘new make’ spirit is slowly maturing in fine American oak casks. Fortunately, here in the ancient Kingdom of Fife, we tend to take a long view, and we expect that the spirit of kings will be well worth the wait.
While working as a golf caddie at neighbouring Kingsbarns Golf Links, it was Douglas Clement's vision that first inspired the idea for a distillery at Kingsbarns. His determined belief in the project and an unfettered passion for single malt whisky has been instrumental in bringing the dream to life.
Doug was inspired to set up his own whisky distillery when, as a former professional golf caddie at Kingsbarns Golf Links, he had regular comments from his golfers to direct them to the nearest distillery. With nothing for 50 miles he knew that there was a real opportunity to create something special at the home of golf.
Searching for a site, the derelict East Newhall Farm on the Cambo Estate clearly stood out above all the rest in terms of the charm of the building and its location overlooking organic barley fields to the Kingsbarns Golf Links and North Sea beyond.
Douglas needed a partner to make his whisky dream a reality which is why the Wemyss family joined the project, their experience in the whisky industry has been instrumental in turning Doug’s dream into a reality.
