8 Fife mountain bike trails

Explore Fife on two wheels

Fife is perfect to explore on two wheels and there are plenty of cafes along the way to enjoy a wee pitstop! Here are a few mountain bike routes and trails to enjoy on your visit.

Balbirnie Park (Markinch)

A short loop around the woodland paths of beautiful Balbirnie Park with a longer optional extension ride taking you to the Star Moss SSI with some great views over the Firth of Forth.

Crail to Kingsbarns

A low level route along a former railway linking two pretty towns in the East Neuk of Fife. A must is a stop off at Crail harbour for a photo. You'll also find The Cheesy Toast Shack at Kingsbarns beach!

Devilla Forest loop (Culross)

A pleasant and mostly flat ride on forest tracks through the huge Scots Pine trees. Why not add on an extra ride on the new Red Squirrel Trail which is a fun addition with points of interest and interpretation panels.

Dunnikier Park (Kirkcaldy)

A short route with a gentle gradient through pleasant woodland around Dunnikier Park. Middleden Mtb trails are just across the road too, with a variety of trails for all abilities.

Lochore Meadows Country Park

A well surfaced, gently undulating path around Loch Ore with lovely views along the way. Once you've finished enjoy a coffee in the cafe on-site and stop off at Lochore Castle for an augmented reality experience - In the Footsteps of Kings.

Pitmedden Forest

An undulating route on forest tracks with spectacular views across Fife, the River Tay, Perthshire and Tayside. A great choice on a clear day with plenty of other informal routes to explore within a popular forest for mountain bikers.

River Tay Coastal Path

A fantastic ride with stunning views above the River Tay, accessing Norman’s Law, one of Fife’s highest hills and the Eastern most peak in the Ochil Fault. Some challenging climbs and exposed hill sides make this one a bit more challenging and suitable for more experienced riders.

Tentsmuir Forest

A popular destination for visitors and somewhere you can spend the whole day, this is a  flat forest cycle perfect for families. An extensive forest track network with access to Kinshaldy Beach, as well as BBQ area and playpark.
