Restoration Forth have so far restored 40,000 oysters at two subtidal sites in the Firth of Forth and two intertidal sites in East Lothian. We are hoping, if we get further funding, that we will be able to deploy oysters at two more intertidal sites in Fife. Before we potentially deploy oysters, it is really useful for us to collect a bit more information about the suitability of the site and to collect baseline biodiversity information about the location. This will give the oysters the best chance of survival and also show us if and how the environment changes if we do deploy oysters here. We are inviting you to join us to collect this data.

The session will involve 2 activities. One will involve learning how to complete our Oyster Observer Guide survey and a habitat assessment of the site. This involves learning to identify and survey different shells and habitats on the beach and how to record and submit a survey. Both these activities can also be done anywhere else around the Firth of Forth. The second activity is a biodiversity survey. This will involve learning how to identify common intertidal species and record their presence and absence. We will be on the beach and in the intertidal zone for this activity. It is recommended that you wear waterproof footwear and bring warm, waterproofs layers with you. Please also bring any medications you might need over the course of the session and be aware there are no public toilet facilities at this site.

Due to the nature of this activity only those that are over the age of 18 are permitted to attend. If you book places but then can't attend, please let us know by cancelling your ticket on Eventbrite, or by emailing ask.us@fifecountryside.co.uk or phoning 01592 656080. Nearer the event we will email all participants with details of the meeting place. If you cancel your tickets, which have an associated payment/donation, you will be responsible for paying the Eventbrite administration fee.
