We are delighted to be back at Holy Trinity Church, St Andrews this summer with another Free Concert. We are a mixed ensemble of players from all sorts of backgrounds brought together by the love of music. We meet over the summer months and put on a wee performance if we can. The ensemble has smaller quartets formed and this concert showcases these. The SHAW Quartet is made up of Wendy Bellars on 1st violin, Annaliese MacQuaker on 2nd violin, Sean Elder on viola and Hannah Smith on cello. We begin with Haydn's String Quartet Number 1 Op.76 with its rousing passages and chromatic shifts. Albinoni's Oboe concerto Number 2 Op.9 is performed by Katja Horvay on oboe accompanied by strings. We then move to pure 18th century style with Bernhard Crusell's Clarinet Quartet, this piece opens with string trio in an Adagio that is very exposed before the clarinet comes in on an ad lib like a soloist, so this is more like a concerto and is performed by Dr. Danielle Sutcliffe. We will close the concert heading back in time with Telemann's Viola Concerto in G Major and your soloist is Sean Elder.
