Marking the change of season into Autumn, we’re delighted to welcome, to our Merchant’s Room Community Art Gallery for the first time, Finnish artist, Riikka Palonen whose work magnificently reflects her immersion in the natural world and the cycles within it. Riikka Palonen's works are at the same time both sensitive and powerful. Whether capturing the profound peace of the forest in chalk sketches or the majesty of the sunrise over the horizon in colours worthy of a medieval manuscript, Riikka’s depictions of the creatures and spirits who inhabit the land and sea almost leap out of the frame. Drawing both on her own experiences, as well as folk history, its art and handicraft culture, Riikka foccuses on painting, drawing, and textile-based art. Her “Flotsam” exhibition here is free to see (with works for sale) and runs (appropriately!) until the beginning of November as the nights draw in between Michaelmas and Samhain. All are welcome to join Riikka for stories which echo the themes in her art work on Monday 13th October at 2pm - see separate event listings or contact jen@scotfishmuseum.org for more information.
