Artist Joanna van den Berg is creating a site specific 3-piece installation that references the shaping of landscape by human footfall and the emotional significance of journeying.
She is taking her inspiration from the Fife Pilgrim Way. The Fife Pilgrim Way threads coastal and rural terrain with regenerated industrial sites, neolithic stone henges, new towns, medieval settlements and ancient sites of contemplation. It has been continuously shaped and reshaped by the footfall of pilgrims, packmen, hikers, miners, mill and agricultural workers.
‘Legacy’ will reflect on the traces, marks and relics of these travellers, and aim to frame our transient, human journeying against the more enduring, steady rumble of land, sea and climate change.
Joanna van den Berg is currently supported by Creative Scotland as part of her 2-year Transience project. This installation is part of Pilgrimage Month at The Abbey Church of Dunfermline. It is being installed in the Memorial Chapel.
