Don’t miss this special birthday celebration that only comes round every four years! There’ll be music recitals and period instrument presentations, face painting, snooker sessions, Meet the Artist painting sessions, an Edwardian treasure hunt and board games, and special guided tours. And, it’s FREE entry if your birthday is on 29 February! 2020 marks Beatrice Sharp’s 156th birthday.
As she was born in the leap year of 1864 she might have preferred us to celebrate her 39th birthday – still quite a young lady for her age! There’ll be loads of fun and entertainment for the whole family to help us celebrate this special day.
Our birthday present to everybody born on 29 February is FREE admission to the event.
Doors open at 11am and that’s also when the first special ‘Meet the Sharps’ guided tour starts. Frederick, Beatrice, Hugh and Elisabeth will take you round their home and speak about the things they like best about it. There will be two further tours at 1pm and 3pm, each lasting approx. 1 hour.
Our music recitals, with period instruments and a talk about the music of the time presented by Jim Tribble in the Great Hall, will last about 30 minutes and start at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm. Our painting sessions ‘Meet the artist, watch and try’ will take place all day in the Drawing Room.
These are flexible drop-in sessions, but will be restricted to 8 people at a time to ensure meaningful interaction is possible. These sessions are not suitable for children under 14. All children will need to be supervised by an accompanying adult. Always wanted to try your hand at snooker? We can give you the opportunity as well as a player on hand to provide some tricks of the trade to improve your game.
The 30-minute ‘Fun with snooker’ will take place in the Billiard Room at 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Our special children’s activities take place all day and include face painting, an Edwardian treasure hunt and Edwardian board games.
You can look around the mansion at your own leisure and ask our room guides all the things you want to know about life upstairs and downstairs in a mansion in the early 20th century. And of course the Sharps will be there as well to tell you their personal stories!
The café will be open to give you a rest from all those activities, with refreshments served all day. Don’t miss this special birthday celebration that only comes round every four years! Special family tickets are available at £35 including up to 2 adults and 2 children, or 1 adult and 3 children.View all events
