David Owen Martin, 1865-1936 was a Glasgow painter of landscapes and coastal views, especially in Fife. He used mainly oil and watercolour and he exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy and other prestigious art galleries. This painting is said to be his finest oil. In 2025 Crail Museum & Heritage Centre ran a successful crowd-funding campaign to have the painting restored by Egan, Matthew & Rose of Dundee and Sophie Percival, Art Conservator will take us through this fascinating restoration process.
