In this accessible one-day workshop she will share some of the artistic approaches and ecological knowledge she’s gathered in her 15 years of drawing trees. Find out how to read the stories written in their forms and enjoy learning to capture their shapes as we walk, talk and draw in the grounds. We’ll also be taking inspiration from shapes and textures of Forgan’s garden in autumn. Working both outdoors and in the studio with willow charcoal sticks and powder, you’ll be encouraged to draw freely in response to your surroundings. After some time drawing quickly and loosely from the garden’s plants, structures, borders and details, you’ll then be guided to develop these into your own studio pieces. Expect a focused and energising day spent connecting with the natural world to produce your own expressive charcoal artworks.
