Get to Know your Trees: Sensory Session & Summer Picnic at Ravenscraig Park

When did you last really stop and notice a tree? Join us for an immersive, participatory session in the beautiful surroundings of Ravenscraig Park. This is a chance to slow down, use your senses and forge a genuine connection with Fife’s native trees, with the added bonus of a summer picnic that we will provide! This is a relaxed, participatory session rather than a traditional guided walk. There’s no set route and no rush. Instead, you’ll be gently invited to slow down and explore the native trees of Ravenscraig Park through your senses. 10-12pm outdoor session in Ravenscraig Park followed by complimentary picnic lunch. Along the way you’ll begin to recognise the qualities that make each native species distinct — not through textbooks, but through direct experience. What to expect: Hands-on, sensory activities with native trees A relaxed, unhurried pace with space for curiosity and conversation Simple techniques for identifying species through sight, touch and smell A deeper appreciation of the trees that are part of our everyday landscape This session connects naturally with the Fife Urban Forest Canopy Survey, our citizen science project mapping and protecting Fife’s urban trees. We’ll share how you can get involved if you’d like to take your curiosity further. Older children are welcome with a recommended age of upper primary and upwards. No experience, training or specialist knowledge needed — just curiosity and a willingness to get outside. You’ll be guided every step of the way. Please wear comfortable footwear suitable for uneven ground and dress for the weather. Attendees will receive an email with details of the meeting place.
