Harvest 2022 is looking full of promise in some places, whilst in others challenging us beyond what we’ve ever known and showing the need for change. We invite you to join a group of harvesters, makers & thinkers in exploring how changes to the ways we harvest our land could generate greater community health, wealth and happiness.

This gathering is for you if you’re interested in:

  • Sustainable growing & eating good food.
  • Building or staying in woodland huts.
  • Turning Scottish wood into furniture.
  • Natural clothing.
  • Learning what a circular economy, a new hut site or regenerative places look like in practice.

The programme will include

  • Big Talk Tent (with a range of expert contributors – full list to be announced separately)
  • 1030 Regenerative Place-making hosted by Jenny Andersson (Really Regenerative Centre)
  • 1330 What is the future for food in Fife? – hosted by Jo-Anne Valentine (Chair, Food4Fife)
  • 1530 Huts, hut-building and happiness – hosted by Lesley Riddoch (author & broadcaster)
  • Small talk – learning circles
  • Opportunities to join or initiate conversations on topics such as: creating a hut site, community food growing, regenerative farming, do’s & don’ts of compost loos and self-building with natural materials.
  • Demonstrations and hands-on practice
  • A range of activities such as apple-pressing, sustainable building techniques using earth or timber and traditional/natural crafts such as handloom weaving. We’ll also have Children’s activities such as den-building, apple-pressing, natural crafts & nature walks

As is traditional at harvest time, there will be a warm hearth where people can gather for stories and perhaps even some spontaneous song or dancing.

Plus opportunities for Walks to see what grows in Falkland Estate’s fields and forest.

Small is possible – Exhibition and Marketplace

See and purchase some of the best fresh harvest from Fife’s fields and Scotland’s forests including Falkland Estate produce: produce from local farms, community gardens, Scottish furniture makers, hut builders & saw-millers. You can get your own 1000 Huts t-shirt and inspiring journals and books.

Whilst you are welcome to bring your own lunch to the event, we highly recommend pre-ordering a summer salad box offered by Falkland Kitchen Farm Created using organic vegetables grown on Falkland Estate and sustainably grown organic grains, this will also feature a dessert celebrating the apples from Falkland Home Farm Orchard.
