What will I learn? You will learn about choice of materials and surfaces, layering and blending, erasing, sgrafitto, and composition with pastels.
Coloured pencils will also be shown for use in initial drawing, and using as the main medium. Water soluble pencils will also be demonstrated.
A choice of reference materials will be on hand, both projected, and printed. Depending on the interests of participants, subjects may cover land, sea or cityscape, flowers and artificial objects. What will I need to bring?
Participants will need to bring materials from the list, but some equipment will also be on hand, so no need to worry if you don’t have everything. There is a 10% discount in store for participants.
A selection of pastels (a small set in a range of colours will be fine), hard or soft.
Coloured pencils or water soluble coloured pencils, a soft drawing pencil or charcoal pencil.
Pastel paper sheets or pad.
Fixative spray, although cheap hairspray will do.
A paper stump (tortillon) although these can easily be made.
Watercolour paints would be useful.
Flat soft bristle brush.
Who is the workshop for? Aimed at complete beginners, and those who haven’t used these materials extensively.
The day will be supportive and fun with a mixture of demonstrations, instruction and positive feedback.
