Screening as part of the Moira Shearer & The Archers strand of The Red Shoes Festival. Headstrong young city girl Joan Webster (Wendy Hiller) sets off, wedding dress in tow, to marry a rich older man on his remote Hebridean island. But when stormy weather leaves her stranded on a neighbouring isle, she finds herself struggling to cope with the unplanned turn of events – and in particular, a surprising connection with the mysterious local laird (Roger Livesey).
The Moira Shearer & The Archers strand is a wonderful centenary celebration of Dunfermline’s own film and ballet star. This strand pays homage to her work alongside Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s British films. Directors: Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger Cast: Wendy Hiller, Roger Livesey, Pamela Brown Production Year: 1945
Following the screening there will be a Q&A with Dr Caitlin McDonald, InFrame Project Coordinator at the University of St Andrews.
