Opera Highlights unites four singers, a pianist, and a selection of operatic extracts from many eras and styles woven into an original narrative celebrating all facets of the human experience.
Back on the road for two tours in the 2025/26 Season, this year’s production is directed by Emma Doherty and designed by Kenneth MacLeod, with a cast that showcases up-and-coming operatic talent, including many of Scottish Opera's Emerging Artists. Scottish Opera Head of Music Fiona MacSherry compiles the music from the best bits of Pagliacci, Romeo and Juliet, Die Fledermaus, and more – all sung in English to make this one-of-a-kind show immediately accessible to audiences. This year it comes with a twist: Water cooler moments, scheming co-workers and the leaving do that some would like to forget. Opera Highlights is heading back to the office with a brand new show, transforming familiar situations - forbidden crushes and awkward workplace conversations - onto the stage. Think music paired with the whir of the photocopier, as you’ll hear a range of operas, building a story of all-too-familiar office politics! We’re taking opera out of the opera house and into halls across Scotland in an intimate, immediate and surprisingly relatable production, with four singers forming the cast of four colleagues navigating workplace dynamics.
