Screening as part of the Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tales strand of the Red Shoes Festival. This lively and likeable animated film is set in a fictional kingdom in South America and has as its unlovable hero the Emperor Kuzco, a spoiled monarch with a bad temper. One of the targets of his temper is Yzma, an old woman who he sacks from her job in the royal court. It’s a bad move – because then she slips him a potion that turns him into a llama! The rest of the story concerns the lessons he learns in his new animal form – and whether he can ever become Emperor again.
