Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries (DCL&G) is an award-winning museum, gallery spaces, shop and reading rooms all adjoining the world's first Carnegie Library. Situated in Scotland's ancient capital, the museum offers a stunning view across to Dunfermline Abbey. The Galleries bring the past, present and future of Dunfermline – one of Scotland’s ancient Royal capitals – to life, by showcasing historic collections and superb built heritage, and by conserving and interpreting historic objects for future generations.
The Museum Shop is well stocked with a wide variety of gifts and we are thrilled to have teamed up with The Granary to bring you interesting, fresh and delicious food in our new friendly and relaxed café at DCLG. The Granary‘s passion for quality in food and drinks is the perfect match for our 5 star library and galleries and it is open every day until an hour before the building closes.
Not to be missed are the Coos in our garden! The Carnegie Coos, as they’ve become affectionately known, are now officially put out to pasture in the gardens where they have already become firm favourites with young and old alike.
Utopia is our latest exhibition (on until 1 March 2026) and explores our never-ending quest for a perfect life in the towns and cities where we live and work. Our dreams and aspirations are often linked to these places, but they themselves are in a perilous state, struggling to adapt to a changing world. When hope and promise are in short supply, memory needs a place to linger.
The exhibition has been created for our three main galleries and features all the work from the book presented as 14 large scale triptych photographs. In addition, a specially designed ‘Urban Wallpaper’ by the textile designer/printmaker Astrid Weigel will be on show. One gallery features photography by young people from Lynburn and Touch Primary Schools in Dunfermline made in response to workshops with the artist.
