Despite very strong competition, Elie and nieghbouring Earlsferry are two of Fife’s most popular holiday hotspots. Located on sheltered Ruby Bay, these charming villages look onto a stunning beach which is an excellent spot for picnics, sandcastles, paddling, open water swimming and watersports such as kayaking and sailing.

Ruby Bay’s golden sands call out to be walked upon, especially at low tide when you can walk from Earlsferry to The Ship Inn without leaving the beach. During the summer months, The Ship’s cricket team competes against teams from across the UK on the stretch of sand in front of the pub. Continue along the narrow road to Elie’s small harbour, where it’s possible to hire watersport equipment – Ruby Bay’s often-calm waters are awesome for paddleboarding.

For great food, you can't beat The Ship Inn. First-class home-cooking ingredients, snacks and treats can be found at Elie Deli and nearby Ardross Farm Shop, which sells an extensive range of fresh, local produce, as well as the monthly Bowhouse Food Weekends, which are not to be missed.

For superb views, follow the Fife Coastal Trail to Elie Ness Lighthouse and the Lady’s Tower, built in 1770 as a recovery and relaxation space for Lady Jane Anstruther, an early devotee of open water swimming! And for the ultimate in wellness, enjoy a seaside sauna with a view at Elie Seaside Sauna.
