07 July

Family

For the perfect family day out, head to the Kingdom of Fife where you can experience some unique experiences the whole family will enjoy. We've picked some of the most unmissable experiences we think you'll love.

1 .

Hop aboard the miniature railway at Craigtoun Country Park

Just a few minutes from St Andrews, Craigtoun Country Park is the perfect place for a fun-filled, family day out. Kids can enjoy the pedal boats, hop aboard the Rio Grande miniature railway, or bounce the afternoon away on the trampolines. With an adventure play area, fairy glen walks, crazy golf, pedal cars, go-karts and much more there’s something for every age — and plenty of space for picnics too. Don’t miss seasonal events like outdoor theatre shows, craft markets, and family fun days happening throughout the holidays. It’s a classic day out that still feels magical.

2 .

Spot the cool cats on the The WemyssWare® Cat Trail

Discover the wonderfully colourful and quirky moggies on the WemyssWare® Cat Trail this summer. There are 17 fabulous cat statues to find in Kirkcaldy and close by. Get your map and head out for a super summer expedition.

3 .

Discover a secret underground bunker

Scotland’s best-kept secret for over 40 years, hidden beneath an unassuming Scottish farmhouse, lies Scotland’s Secret Bunker.

Built by the RAF in 1953 during the Cold War in response to the threat of nuclear war with the USSR, this 24,000 sq ft underground command centre is a fascinating journey back in time. Explore the state-of-the-art radar technology of the era, discover the plotting rooms, dormitories, and kitchen facilities that would have sustained those inside, and get a glimpse of life inside this hidden gem.

Step into history — it’s an experience you won’t forget!

4 .

Head to the Scottish Deer Centre & Wildlife Park

One of Fife's top family attractions, the Scottish Deer Centre & Wildlife Park promises a fun-filled day that will keep the kids entertained from start to finish.

It's home to 12 species of Deer and animals which are long lost from the Scottish countryside including Wolves, Lynx and Scottish Wildcat plus our European Brown Bear.

Learn about the animals with daily feeding talks, tours, Falconry shows and play areas both inside and out for younger visitors.

Best of all? Entry is currently on a Pay as You Please basis.

5 .

Mee the Alpacas

For a fun and unforgettable experience, meet some Alpacas at Bowbridge Alpacas or The Farm at Wellsgreen.

You can get up close to the animals and learn more about these fascinating animals. It's a great way to slow down and connect with nature.

6 .

Get your vitamin D fix

If you’re feeling adventurous, head to Cluny Activities — one of Scotland’s top outdoor adventure centres — where the kids can burn off energy and soak up some vitamin D!

With so much to choose from, they’ll be spoilt for choice. Spend hours exploring the adventure park, tackle Scotland's first footgolf course, glide through the grounds on a Segway tour, perfect your swing at the driving range, or take aim with a bow and arrow in an archery session! There's also a great indoors crazy golf course featuring local landmarks, perfect for all ages.

When it’s time to refuel, head to the lovely onsite café and enjoy a delicious brunch, lunch, or simply a well-earned cuppa.

7 .

Get lost in a maze of maize

Cairnie Mega Maze is the ultimate day out for active kids, offering endless fun and adventure!

With a ticket, you’ll enjoy unlimited access to the Funyard, packed with exciting activities to keep everyone entertained all day. Highlights include zooming around the go-kart track, conquering the giant straw bale climbing fortress, bouncing on sunken trampolines, flying on the zipline and having a blast on the bouncy pillow — plus a few unexpected surprises!

But the real showstopper? The maze of maize, which grows up to 8 feet tall in the summer (from mid July), creating an unforgettable challenge for explorers of all ages.

8 .

Experience the best little zoo in Scotland

On a mission to become the best little zoo in Scotland, with a real passion for conservation at its heart, Fife Zoo is a must-visit for families who love animals… and let’s be honest, who doesn’t?

Located near Cupar and open seven days a week from 10 am to 4 pm, Fife Zoo offers an exciting opportunity to get up close with zebras, meerkats, and a host of other fascinating creatures. Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast or just looking for a fun family day out, this charming zoo promises an unforgettable experience.

Time to make some wild memories!

9 .

Set sail on a family boat trip

All aboard for an unforgettable family day out. Take a boat trip from Anstruther to the Isle of May to see puffins, seals, and even dolphins during the summer months, a real wildlife spectacle the kids will love. You can also explore the island and learn about its ancient monastery and lighthouse. It does tend to get booked up quick, so check ahead if you're planning a trip.

For a shorter trip with a big wow factor, head to Inchcolm Island where the boat trips depart from South Queensferry. With its impressive medieval abbey, wartime tunnels, and panoramic views of the Forth Bridges, it’s a hidden gem full of history and imagination and makes for a great family day out.
