About

The Adam Smith – back as the cultural heart of the community

A warm welcome is a key part of script at the Adam Smith now that it has reopened after a major refurbishment.  Located in Kirkcaldy's town centre, the Adam Smith Theatre is a popular venue in a traditional setting, well-loved for its high-quality shows, full-scale cinema and long history as the heart of the local arts scene.  First opened in 1889 as a memorial to groundbreaking architect Adam Smith, this stunning theatre has an impressive facade and over looks the Memorial Gardens and another ONFife venue, Kirkcaldy Galleries.

Expect to be wowed as you step into the new-look foyer with a striking new curved box office. The layout and décor of the old bar area has been completely reworked to create The Spinning Top, a place to drop in for coffee, food, or just a drink with friends.

The Beveridge Suite has had a complete makeover and is ready for everything from wedding receptions to performances.

Next to the Beveridge Suite is a new multipurpose room, The Exchange, created to host smaller meetings and events.

On the lower ground floor is our other function suite, now named The Advantage, which, with its new flooring and mirrored wall and ballet barre, is perfect for everything from dance classes and rehearsals to conferences and concerts.

The Design Suite is a completely new facility and is set to be a hive of activity bringing together established and up and coming creatives.

And last but by no means least, at the heart of the Adam Smith is our wonderful auditorium, which has had a major facelift, with new décor, seating and technical equipment.

Enjoy a fantastically diverse and popular programme of events at this 475-seat venue, including comedy, dance, drama, music, and children's theatre. The theatre also supports and hosts local arts organisations, such as Kirkcaldy Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Societies, as well as classes and workshops.  The Adam Smith Pantomime is always popular and offers a magical festive introduction to theatre for the local population.

We can’t wait to show you around!
