Cowdenbeath is a town proud of its connection to the Fife coalfields. In the 1800s, when there were 50 pits in Fife, the town was home to thousands of miners and their families. Today, the mines are gone but Cowdenbeath’s miners are remembered by a stunning mural – The Miner’s Son.

Cowdenbeath is a town that looks to the future rather than the past and there’s a good choice of shops, eating places and things to do, including following the mural trail that includes The Miner’s Son, which is painted on the gable end of the local police station.

Get close to nature at Dalbeath Marsh Nature Reserve, once a quarry and now home to a variety of wetland birds and several rare orchids. Or why not play a round of golf at Cowdenbeath’s 18-hole golf course? Built on top of Old Dora Coal Mine, Cowdenbeath Golf Club welcomes visiting golfers.

For sheer adrenaline, spend a Saturday evening at Cowdenbeath Racewall, home of Scottish stock car racing. From March until October, stock cars charge round the Racewall’s circuit – and nothing and no-one will get in the way of these drivers’ desires to win!
